What is wrench time?

The share of a technician's day actually spent fixing things.

Wrench time is the portion of a shift spent on hands-on maintenance — not travel, waiting on parts, permits or looking for information. Industry studies put typical wrench time at 25–35%; well-planned operations reach 50%+.

Low wrench time is almost never lazy crews — it's missing parts, unclear job plans and permit delays. Planners attack it with kitted parts, good job plans and mobile work orders.
