What is a purchase requisition?

The internal ask that starts a purchase — usually straight off a work order.

A purchase requisition is the internal request to buy something — the part a technician needs for a work order, the service a contractor must provide. It carries justification, cost codes and the approval chain before it can become a purchase order.

Tied to the work order that triggered it, the requisition keeps the loop closed: the technician who asked for the part can watch it move through approval → PO → receiving into the storeroom.
