What is a permit to work?
The signed authorisation that makes hazardous work safe to start.
A permit to work is the formal authorisation for hazardous tasks — hot work, confined space, electrical isolation, working at height. It records hazards, precautions, isolations and the sign-offs required before work may begin.
The permit is attached to the work order and blocks the job until cleared — welding without a hot-work permit shouldn't be possible to schedule or sign off.
