What is obsolescence?
When a part or asset can't be sourced anymore — plan for it or get stranded.
Obsolescence is when a component, spare or whole asset is no longer manufactured or supported — the drive, PLC or instrument the OEM discontinued. It turns a routine failure into a scavenger hunt.
Managing it means flagging OEM end-of-life notices, identifying which assets depend on the obsolete part, and deciding: last-time buy, engineer an alternative, or plan replacement of the parent asset.
