What are inventory turns?
How many times a year stock actually cycles — the health metric for spare parts.
Inventory turns = annual usage value ÷ average stock value. Maintenance storerooms run low by nature (spares are insurance, not throughput), but near-zero turns on thousands of items means shelves of capital that will never be used.
Turns by category expose dead stock — parts for decommissioned machines, over-bought bulk items — and justify the stock that does earn its shelf: fast movers and critical insurance spares.
