What is availability?

The share of time an asset is actually ready to run.

Availability is the percentage of scheduled time an asset is operable: uptime ÷ (uptime + downtime). Every planned stop and unplanned breakdown comes straight off the number.

Availability is the first metric most operations watch — it converts maintenance performance into production terms. Rising MTBF and falling MTTR both push availability up.
